A Heap of Anime Updates Dropped During the Festive Season
The winter break present a wealth of pursuits far superior than catching up on the headlines: opening presents, indulging in festive fare, and employing patience techniques to refrain from arguing with relatives. It is wished you were able to do all these things and more. That said, the entertainment world never sleeps, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Many exciting announcements surfaced during the break, and just in case you overlooked any, here is a compilation of the juiciest bits.
One-Punch Man Its Third Season Will Continue (In 2027)
Perhaps the most surprising piece of news, the much-discussed controversial season that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to halt further production. Season 3 will return with a second cour in 2027—such a distant date they might as well have labeled it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will continue to be leading the project. Thankfully this time, director Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the start, which could be taken as a positive development. But, the main art for the new episodes is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This suggests that, nowadays, they could be mocking the fans.
Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a standing for being an elite animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the high caliber of its productions but for the good working conditions of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had never worked on an anime based on a manga from Shonen Jump, perhaps the most iconic magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained massive popularity when it debuted in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a lengthy break due to the mangaka's health issues. When it returned with a lighter schedule, the series demonstrated it maintained the fans' affection and enthusiasm, and now everyone is overjoyed about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom is the highly popular, long-running Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English release, but the anime has been airing for years, and season 6 was yet another excellent entry. As it happens that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been announced as in development, and it will very likely debut in 2026.

Another studio known for the superior craftsmanship of its work, Science Saru has given us hit shows of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an prominent woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and intriguing visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my watchlist.
