Food item thrown by demonstrator reportedly exploded and created mustard stain on immigration officer, legal proceedings reveal
A American border officer has stated under oath he could feel through his ballistic vest the force of a deli item thrown at him by a DC demonstrator, who has faced court proceedings for assault.
Immigration and customs agent the government official testified to the court panel the food item "exploded all over him" and he "noticed the vegetables and condiment" on his work clothing.
Neither side disputes that the defendant, in his thirties, did in fact lob profanities and a prepared food item at authorities assigned by the administration to patrol the Washington DC in late summer.
The occurrence was recorded on video and went viral, making the defendant a representation of dissent in the capital to the administration.
State lawyers initially tried to obtain serious criminal counts against the accused, but a legal panel chose not to prosecute him.
The former president's deployment of military personnel to the capital this season caused protest from some of the local inhabitants, who viewed it as a political use of the military.
Based on legal filings, Mr Dunn approached a group of officers at about late evening on the summer date, referring to them "authoritarians" and yelling: "What is your purpose? Your presence is unwanted in my city!"
The legal proceeding witnessed a re-enactment from the officer on the trial day as he gave evidence against the defendant.
"I could feel it through my ballistic vest," he said of the sandwich's impact, adding that an onion string dangled from his official equipment and sauce marked his clothing.
The defendant's legal counsel, Julia Gatto, argued in her opening statement that hurling the sandwich was a "harmless gesture that did not, could not, create physical damage".
But prosecutor the prosecutor said Mr Dunn must be considered responsible.
"Whatever your status, you can't just go around hurling objects at people because you're upset," the prosecutor stated.
Following the reported incident was revealed, Mr Dunn was fired from his job as a law firm employee in the federal legal agency.
