Google to Invest $15bn for Constructing AI Data Hub in India
The parent firm of Google Alphabet plans to commit $15bn to build an AI computing facility in southern India's Andhra Pradesh state.
The infrastructure, that is planned in the harbor town of Visakhapatnam city, will become a component of Google's global network of AI centers spread across twelve different countries.
"It's the largest AI facility that we are going to be investing in across the globe, apart from the US," Thomas Kurien announced at an gathering in Delhi, the national capital recently, mentioning that the financial commitment will be spread throughout the next half-decade.
The announcement occurs when American President Donald Trump has been asking American companies to focus on domestic investment.
The Expanding Position of India in AI Computing
The nation has risen as a major hub for AI data centers. The nation's affordable data pricing and swiftly increasing internet user base have turned it into a center for AI and cloud growth for major tech firms.
"The infrastructure will bring our cutting-edge technology to companies and individuals in the nation, speeding up AI innovation and driving growth across the country," said Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet.
Initiative Particulars
A definitive arrangement to finalise the initiative is set to be signed soon, local government officials said.
"This represents a major step forward for the digital progression of our state, progress, and worldwide position," remarked the technology official Nara Lokesh, the technology minister.
The project will combine computing and artificial intelligence facilities with sustainable power solutions and an enhanced optical fiber network.
Data Infrastructure Plans
The project forms part of the local administration's blueprint to create 6 gigawatts of data centre capacity by 2029.
Data centres are actual buildings that accommodate the computing and networking equipment that organizations use to accumulate, handle, retain, and circulate data.
These include computer servers, storage systems and network equipment like network routers and security firewalls, combined with the necessary power and cooling systems to operate them.
Financial Attractions
Within the state, the state authorities has been offering subsidised land and electricity to entice international investors.
Sector Expansion
The country's computing facility market has expanded quickly during the last five years, exceeding the 1GW capability milestone in 2024 and nearly tripling its 2019 level.
